Birth is painful, but preparing for it doesn’t have to be. From learning she’s expecting to the baby’s arrival, mom carries the motherlode, literally. But dads and partners have a vital role to play on any successful birth team. Created by expert birth educator and doula Alice Turner, SupportingHer is an online class that teaches tips, techniques and actionable skills to help you take care of your partner and yourself during labor and birth.

You’ll learn how to define your role in labor, communicate with hospital staff, provide physical and verbal support and deal with any curve balls. You’ll also learn what to say and what never to say to a woman in labor.

SupportingHer is an easy way to learn all you need to know, at your own pace, in less than two hours from your computer or phone. You can pass on the boring books and all-day classes and be confidently ready for the big day.

We’ve got your back, so you’ve got hers!!

"There is enough to worry about whether you’ve been through this process or not. When you can remove some of the question marks with regard to the childbirth process, it makes it a less stressful situation for all. SupportingHer gives you a lot of insight of how to prepare, what to expect and how to best be a cheerleader and supporter to your wife. SupportingHer gives you a lot of alternatives in how to deal with different situations that may arise during the process. A calmer Dad makes for a calmer Mom. I would highly recommend SupportingHer for any Dad to be."

"SupportingHer provides no-nonsense facts, suggestions, tactful alternatives, and takes the fear and mystery out ‘having a baby’ by addressing hospital protocols and managing expectations when interacting with your partner’s doctor, midwife, and nursing staff. Finally, a self-learning tool for the partner to embrace and become the best support person EVER both prenatally and beyond."

Alice Turner is the ultimate birth expert. With more than 18 years of experience as a doula and 12 as a Lamaze certified childbirth educator, she has supported more than 300 births and knows the power of a prepared partner. While working with dads during a couples’ childbirth class, Alice was surprised by how much more engaged and inquisitive they were than in the traditional group setting. She talked with doctors, midwives and other doulas and quickly identified the need for a convenient way to prep partners for their support role during labor and birth. She developed a tailored curriculum, filmed it with dads in a local brewery and SupportingHer was born!

Prior to becoming dads’ favorite doula, Alice received a Biomedical Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University with a minor in Computer Science and spent her early professional life working as a database programmer in healthcare.

Birth can be painful, but preparing for it shouldn’t be.

We believe that the birth of a child should be a bonding experience, and couples don’t have to embrace the old “you did this to me” idea of labor fueled by fear and lack of information. We know dads and birth partners want to help but don’t always know how and are busy with no time to waste.

We know some things are beyond our control, but we believe knowledge is power and a prepared partner is a supportive partner. Too many couples miss out on the experience they’d hoped for, and moms need all of the advocacy and support they can get.

With a little focused time and attention, dads and partners can learn all they need to know to confidently and effectively support laboring moms and improve the childbirth experience for everyone involved.
